Welcome to the Jungle

I haven't posted anything in a while and this is the culprit. My wife is nearly 7 months pregnant with our first child and we thought it would be fun to give the future baby room a jungle theme, including a jungle mural on one wall. So all my free time for the past couple weeks has been swallowed up in painting it. It was fun.

Great work! Any tips you can pass on? I'm about to do a "Cars" enviroment for my nephew's room.

The burning question is: is there a 'best' materials to do a project like this with? Do you have to prepare the wall somehow before painting? I ask just in case I ever get a wall I can paint on.

It looks terrific Kevin! Are you going to work over the entire room, or limit the mural to the one wall? Either way it's really quite cool. Thanks for posting. And speaking of kid names, Mowgli is a good one. Though he/she might get beat up a lot. Forget I mentioned it.

This is sweet! I love the shapes and angles on the trees, especially the main one... and the way it's growing on rocks. Very cool.

I probably would have gone for less depth in the mural so my kid doesn't keep crawling into the wall. I'm planning on having some not-so-bright kids, as you can see. Beautiful mural, Kevin!

Hey, thanks for the nice comments. I really didn't know what I was doing so I don't feel too confident giving tips, but I can tell you what I did. As far as prepping the surface before hand, I just did a couple coats of white primer. Then I just used interior latex-acrylics for it (the stuff you'd regularly paint a wall with from Home Depot). I'm more or less happy with it. Like anything there are a few things I wish I would have done differently, but I'm not going to mess with it anymore. I'm just keeping it confined to that wall. Oh, and I'll run the name Mowgli by my wife. Maybe we can get him leather loincloth diapers or something.

Kevin, I can relate to how time consuming murals can be- I did a Jungle Book mural for a home in Las Vegas a few years back- time was limited, so it was a 24/7 sort of a project. This looks great- You can actually paint right over the plate on the socket area, some of it may scratch off, but they do blend well when painted. Gonna do some more mural work in my basement once I finally get it finished up. Nice job!

Just love the room. Almost posted the same question on your process until I read down the list. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to start my project. I've always wanted to do a cloud scape on the cieling. Will definitely be back for inspiration.

Oh my Gawd... I'm 35 years old, and wish you were my DAD... The idea that every one of your brushstrokes are filled with a Father's Love and an Artist's Hand, is so beyond any words I know... I was already impressed with the work I'd seen as I scrolled down the page... Then I saw this, and was blown away...

Thanks For Sharin',

Tony
